What is this contract?

A resignation letter or notice of termination is a unilateral document by which one party ends the employment contract. It has only one signature and the other party's consent is not asked — this distinguishes it from a termination agreement. There is, however, an important difference between the two directions. In an ordinary termination, the employee may leave without giving a reason, provided they observe the notice period. The employer cannot: its termination is permitted only on a ground provided by law, it must be justified and a termination without grounds can be challenged. The form writes this warning into every notice.

Frequently asked questions

Does the employee have to give a reason for leaving?

Not for an ordinary termination — observing the notice period is enough. An extraordinary termination must be justified.

Can the employer simply terminate the employment contract?

No. The employer may terminate only on a ground named in the law and must justify it; a termination without grounds can be challenged before the labour dispute committee or in court.

How does this differ from a termination agreement?

A notice is unilateral and does not need the other party's consent. An agreement requires both parties' signatures and the parties agree the terms themselves.
