What is this contract?

A venue hire agreement for an event covers one specific occasion: a wedding, a birthday, a training session or a corporate event. Unlike an ordinary rental agreement, there is no monthly rent or long-term use here, but an exact time window — when you can get in and when the premises must be vacated. Most disputes depend on that. The rest arise from three places the template deals with separately: whether your own caterer is allowed, how long music may be played and what happens to the deposit if something gets broken. The hirer is also responsible for the behaviour of their guests.

Frequently asked questions

When is the security deposit returned?

After the premises have been inspected, if no damage is found. That is why it is worth checking the condition before and after the event.

Is my own caterer allowed?

That is a matter for agreement and the template covers both options — many venues sell catering themselves and forbid outside food.

Who is liable for damage caused by guests?

The hirer. The template states this, because with an oral agreement it usually stays open.
